Sumena - a shop that reduces food waste.
Sumena was established in 2021. Through its services, Sumena reduces the amount of food waste in Estonia and at the same time provides its customers with a wide range of affordable food and grocery products. The (online) store's range consists mainly of food products at risk of destruction, purchased from Estonian producers, importers and wholesalers.

Sumena's range includes products for which the "best-before" is approaching or has already passed, and products for which the expiry date is not approaching for a long time. It is important to know that for products that can be stored at room temperature, 'best before' is simply a recommendation by the manufacturer.

The food is perfectly edible and usually tastes just as good long after the "best before" date. Many people confuse 'best before' with 'expiration date'. We hope that more and more consumers will understand the differences in labelling to reduce food waste.

Parim enne: on tootja soovitus ja annab mõista, kui kaua säilib toode täpselt sama maitse ja kvaliteediga kui valmistamise ajal. Enamasti säilib aga toote kvaliteet aastaid pärast tähtaja lõppu. Kõlblik kuni: nagu nimigi ütleb, on see kuupäev, mil toode on hiljemalt tootja poolt kasutamiseks ette nähtud ning seda ei tohi pärast märgitud kuupäeva enam müüa ega süüa. Märgistust kasutatakse kiiresti riknevatel toiduainetel näiteks piima- ja lihatoodetel. Sumena ei müü "kõlblik kuni" tooteid.
